Feb 5 City Council Meeting, Agenda Item B4 - Goleta City Logo

If I recall correctly during the months leading up to the election, the three new council members were screaming and yelling about the fiscal (ir)responsibility of the former council. Now, there is an item on the agenda regarding recreating and replacing the City of Goleta logo, at a minimum immediate cost of $69,696.23 (through attrition).

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't this money be better spent elsewhere in our city, rather than recreating a logo and having to rebuild an identity? What do residents (and others) actually think about this?

The current logo looks like a butterfly peeing in the ocean... that ag field looks like butterfly whiz showering down.

Sorry, but that is what it looks like.

It would be worth it to have a city logo that didn't look like a butterfly with a bladder issue.

Expensive, petty and egotistical. Sounds like Michael to me.

While I don't know Michael personally, so I can't make any comment regarding him or his personality, I do question the reasoning and/or motives with wanting to move forward with this.

Has he stated why he thinks the logo needs to be replaced, why the council and staff need to spend time on this, what this will actually accomplish?

Only thing I know, as reported by the Independent, (http://www.independent.com/online_onlys/2006/12/whats_next_for_goleta.html), is he was overheard saying to a circle of supporters at his election night victory party, "The first thing we do is get rid of Cynthia’s butterfly.", which would imply to me it is because it's something that belongs to the former council.

Does he still have a beef with former council members? Something he needs to prove?

Michael has a problem, wants everything to be his choice. His ego is bigger than the City.
There was a lot of public input and I don't remember seeing Michael at any of the meetings. That isn't unusual because he didn't even attend regular meetings until he was running for Council and not very often then.

It is a ridiculous and expensive suggestion which seems rather like a vendetta rather than the positive and mature action required of a council member.
